April Showers? Enough already! Aren't we done with the rain? I feel as I write this there is an emerging theme of water drops and the power of water pushing its way through. Hang with me...
I'd like to acknowledge the heartache that our Nashville community (and beyond) is facing right now in the wake of the shootings that took place on Monday, March 27th at the Covenant School. An event like this hits us all in so many different ways. Shock, enrage, devestation, are a few common feelings that most of us will share. I know I felt (and feel) like I needed to DO SOMETHING.
SO, I'd like to encourage you to take time to process these events with friends, family or your therapist. We all need to process and that might include tears, talking, being with someone quietly, or the need for a hug. Let's try to be sensitive to those around us, notice how each person may be responding to these events, and be gentle to each other in our responses.
These types of events often make me feel helpless and out of control. (Can you relate?). I hear the inner critic saying "Shara, you're just one person, what could you possibly do to create change?" So, I ignored that voice and took some active, assertive steps to reach out to surrounding schools and organizations to let them know I am here and I am available to help.
Maybe you feel like you can or need to DO something, too. I encourage you to be creative and dig deep to find your own way to be proactive in finding steps towards a close to home "solution" that feels right for you. Let us not fall into the trap that says, "I am only one person, I can't make a difference".
Think of that one water droplet that falls into the ocean or lake. It creates a ripple around it. That ONE DROP could be you. Also, when ONE joins with one more, and one more, and one more... that forms a collection of MANY. TOGETHER WE can create change.
As Quoted from "The Power Of One", (an excellent movie by the way):
St. John: "I quite agree with you, P.K. But at the end of the day, it's only about a dozen people you're talking about teaching. How much difference will that really make?"
P.K. : "A waterfall begins from only one drop of water, sir. Look what comes from that..."

No matter, ANYTHING positive or negative ALWAYS starts with ONE.
